Activating Text to Speech - Chromebook & Windows

Text to speech can read selected content aloud on Chromebooks and Windows PCs. Use the steps below to enable it.

Chromebook

1. Click the time in the bottom-right corner.
2. Click the Accessibility icon. If it is not displayed, contact IT.
3. Turn on "Select-to-speak".
4. Click the Select-to-speak icon in the bottom-right corner.
5. Click and drag over the text you want to hear.
6. Use the displayed controls to play, pause, skip or change speed.
7. Click the icon again to stop using the feature.

Windows

1. Open Narrator by pressing Ctrl + Windows + N, or open Settings > Ease of Access > Narrator.
2. Turn Narrator on.
3. Press Ctrl if you need to stop Narrator reading immediately.
4. Open the page containing the text you want read aloud.
5. Click the content or use the arrow keys to choose what Narrator reads.
6. Return to Narrator settings to turn it off when finished.
